Flow (Measurement)

Vortex

Vortex

Vortex flowmeters consist of a pipe wiht a solid "shedder" bar which is mounted across the diameter of the pipe perpendicular to the flow. As flow passes the shredder bar vortices (swirls) are formed alternately on each side of the bar. The higher the flowrate the higher the frequency of the vortices. Dual piezoelectric crystals measure this frequency and output the volumetric flowrate. There are no moving parts to this rugged and reliable flowmeter which is suitable for liquids, gases, and steam.
